PURPOSE:To provide the optimum injection rate in accordance with the driving condition by sharing the feeding of fuel under pressure between a piston for a low feeding rate and a plunger for a high feeding rate and making the time for feeding under pressure by said high feeding rate plunger variable. CONSTITUTION:When loading is partial, a fuel feeding passage 50A is closed midway during a suction stroke by means of a solenoid valve 56 and, following this, a piston 45 is also stopped midway without being seated on the side wall of a throttle part 43. Thereby, when a plunger 7 is lifted, at first, the fuel is fed under pressure from a second high pressure chamber 48 but, since a fuel feeding passage under pressure 54 is soon opened by means of a piston 45, the feeding of fuel under pressure is, then, carried out by means of the plunger 7 having a larger cross sectional area. At this time, the fuel being fed under pressure can be prevented from leaking toward a fuel leak passage 52 side by means of a check valve 55. |
