Hydrogen and carbonyl sulfide are produced by a process comprising contacting gaseous hydrogen sulfide with gaseous carbon monoxide in the presence of a precious metal promoted multi-metal oxide/sulfide catalytic composition, e.g. a catalyst of the formula: Ag0.1Ni0.45Cu0.45MoOxSy.
