TREATMENT OF BLAST FURNACE SLAG

PURPOSE:To reduce aging stage and aging yard by subjecting the high temp. slag which is poured to a slag field and is air-cooled to a prescribed temp. range to spraying of water at a specific rate as well as to mass crushing and piling of the slag. CONSTITUTION:Molten blast furnace slag is poured to a slag field and when the temp. thereof is dropped to 100-900 deg.C by air cooling, water is sprayed to the high temp. slag at a rate of 300-700kg for each one ton of slag. In other words, the steam aging of the slag is simultaneously accomplished by utilizing the excess heat possessed by the slag in the cooling stage of the slowly cooled blast furnace slag by such wate spraying. The slag cooled by the water spraying is mass-crushed and piled during this time, by which the steam aging is accelerated. The aging treatment for the purpose of preventing yellow water is accomplished in the stage before the crushing and sizing of the blast furnace slag by the above-mentioned method and therefore a considerable shortening of the aging stage and a reduction in the aging yard are attained.
