PURPOSE:To reduce chatter due to the vibration of a long workpiece to machine the workpiece with a high degree of accuracy in a process of machining grooves in the workpiece, by simultaneously machining three thread grooves to cancel out cutting forces which tend to bend the long workpiece. CONSTITUTION:A long workpiece 26 is attached to a spindle head (which is not shown), and is rotated and fed by one motor. A cutter head 11 is provided with one vertically downward directed cutter 9 and two obliquely upward directed cutters, and these cutters are rotated by one motor 18 and are abutted against the workpiece 26 to machine grooves (not shown) having predetermined depthes. By rotating and feeding the workpiece, the three cutters machine three spiral grooves, simultaneously. |
