The self-propelled combine harvester works on the principle of separation by rotation. The harvester has one or more rotors to which the harvested product is brought. The product is then transported along a helical path around the separation rotor towards the two lateral extremities of the rotor. The rotor and the fixed wall which surrounds it, jut out from the two sides beyond the lateral walls of the cleaning device. The two ends together with the case surrounding these ends, all have outlet openings which allow the chaff to exit. Devices are used to direct the currents of chaff separated by the beating effect. These directional devices are at a lower level than the sifting drum (26), which is below the axial beating mechanism (5), w.r.t. the direction of motion of the combine harvester. These devices are in front of the ejector (27) end of the sifting drum.
