Process for the production of a pitch containing a meso phase, using a carrier gas

Process for the production of a gas containing meso phase from petroleum pitch or coal tar pitch. It consists in removing the volatile distillate fractions detrimental to the formation of meso phase and initially present in the pitch employed as raw material or formed as byproduct during the heat treatment, using a carrier gas at 360-450 DEG C to shorten the overall duration of the heat treatment and in promoting regularly the formation of meso phase by increasing the effect of stirring.
