Steel sheet vehicle engine exhaust manifold with branch stubs

The vehicle-engine exhaust manifold is made of heat-resisting steel sheet; it has several branch-stubs for connecting to the cylinder head outlets. It has one or more stays (12,13) rigidly connecting the ends (10,11), running along the outside at some distance from it. The axial strength of the stays exceeds that of the manifold. The stays may be metal rods, bent in at the ends and welded to the manifold; pref. they are fitted in pairs, if possible lying in the same plane perpendicular to that of the stubs. Alternatively they may be built-up using bridge-like pieces, each fastened to the manifold by its ends.
