A feed mechanism for headed fastening elements, such as rivets 43, which are fed at an interval from one another by means of a carrier belt 44 can be used in a riveting machine and comprises a plunger 25, which can be advanced and retracted by a control bush 29, and has a mandrel 37 at the front end. When the plunger 25 is moved forward, the mandrel 37 is driven by a rivet delivery channel 52 in the end piece 39 of the control bush 29. A belt feed tube 45 guides the carrier belt 44, which brings the rivets 43 one after another to the rivet delivery channel 52. An actuating element 41, which is rocker-mounted in the control bush 39, is moved to its retracted position (not shown) by the advancing plunger 25 and automatically moved back to the advanced position shown when the plunger 25 returns. Fitted to the actuating element 41 is a spring pawl 64, which at each retraction and advance of the actuating element 41 engages with a rivet 43 and moves the said rivet towards the rivet delivery channel 42, from whence the leading rivet 43 in the row is driven by the advancing mandrel 37, which pierces the carrier belt 44 thereby immobilising it, whilst the actuating element 41 moves to its retracted position, not shown. <IMAGE>
