In order to suppress interference and to reduce the discharge starting voltage across the gap between the electrode tip of a distributor rotor (5) and each output connection (8) of a distributor cap (6), the entire rotor surface of the rotor electrode (5) is coated in a uniform manner with a thin layer of dielectric silicon material (10). The dielectric layer is applied under heat onto a surface of a flat, electrically conductive metal plate, from which the rotor is subsequently stamped in the desired shape.
