Armouring bars which are treated by hardening in a cooling liquid and thereafter by drawing temper owing to the core heat exhibit a mantel treated by hardening and drawing temper having an uneven thickness so that it is difficult to bend them and their mechanical and deformation characteristics which should be ensured are considerably dispersed. To remedy this problem a torsion (B) is imparted to the bar (10) during the quenching run. Said torsion may be caused by oblique ribs (11, 12) in rows having the same direction in the last stand of rolls. It it possible to reinforce said initial torsion owing to a nozzle (50) having a spiral shaped outlet so that the bar (10) is at least subjected to one rotation while going through the cooling run.
