A press roller for papermachines or similar machines for draining fibre material webs has a metallic roller body with a roller shell formed from artificial stone. The latter is made of polymer concrete. The cylindrical outer surface of the roller body has peripheral grooves, preferably in the form of a thread, the side walls of the peripheral grooves all being inclined towards the same roller end.
