The invention relates to a screening machine having a multiplicity of mutually parallel transverse carriers (2, 4) arranged transversely to the direction of transport of the screening material. A flexible screen lining (13) is mounted on or between the transverse carriers. The transverse carriers which can be moved with respect to one another are driven by at least two movement systems (I, II) in such a way that mutually adjacent transverse carriers alternately approach one another and move away from one another, the transverse carriers (2, 4) moving in separate, mutually parallel planes which are oblique with respect to the planes (14) in which the transverse carriers of in each case one movement system are located.
