The invention relates to a device for the heat treatment of fine granular material, in which, vertically above the inlet housing of the rotary kiln, a mixing chamber is arranged which is provided with feeders for fuel, tertiary air and preheated material and which is adjoined in its lower part by the inclined calcining shaft. Such a device allows inferior fuel to be utilised without a risk of forming deposits on the walls of the reaction chamber.
