Process for the polymerisation of olefins

If a tetravalent titanium compound is reduced by means of an organoaluminium compound in the presence of a magnesium alkoxide (alcoholate) and/or a product of the reaction thereof with an organoaluminium compound, a catalyst component is obtained which can be used, without removal of by-products, for the polymerisation of ethylene or mixtures of ethylene with other 1-olefins. This catalyst component can be used to prepare, in very good activity, both polyolefins having a broad molecular weight distribution and low-molecular-weight polymers having a narrow molecular weight distribution.
