The invention relates to a fuel injection nozzle of the inwards opening type. A valve element is capable of moving axially to and fro in a bore of the nozzle body, the bore having a seat with which the valve element in its closed position interacts, in order to prevent fuel flowing into a chamber situated downstream of the seat. The chamber can be connected by way of an opening to the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. The valve element is provided with a step, which extends into the opening and closes this with little play when the valve element is in the closed position so that no combustion gases can enter the chamber.
