Aromatic polyester polycarbonate polyols (I) are prepd. by reacting a residue from the mfr. of PET with a carbonating agent (II) comprising either an alkylene carbonate or a combination of CO2 and alkylene oxide, in the presence of a catalyst (III). - Pref. (II) has 2-4C alkylene and is used at a mole ratio of 2-10:1 (4-8:1) w.r.t. the PET residue. (III) include Na and K stannates, K2CO3, BaO, ZnO, and Ca(OH)2. Reaction is at 100-200 (150) deg.C and 1-150 atmos. using 0.2-2.0wt.% (III), and yields a (I) having OH number 75-300.
