The invention relates to a device for dividing and covering storage spaces, in particular in estate cars and cars with slanting tailgates whose luggage space or loading surface can be changed by repositioning a seat bench. In order to be able to utilise fully the variability of this interior design of a vehicle and, at the same time, to achieve convenient control, a folding-over dividing grille is attached between storage space and passenger compartment. The said grille can be locked in the vertical and in the horizontal position. The dividing grille consists of hollow tubes which are pushed one into the other, and can be pulled apart and pushed one into the other for the purpose of matching to different widths and lengths. In the vertical position, the said grille separates storage space and passenger compartment and thus increases the safety of the passengers, in the horizontal position a cover plate which conceals the load from view and protects it from the sun can be fastened on the said grille.
