PURPOSE:To decide a degree of brittleness of metallic materials without destruction by supplying an electrolytic solution to a probe, which is brought into contact with a metallic object to be measured, to measure the polarizability of the object to be measured. CONSTITUTION:A probe 2 is brought into contact with an object 1 to be measured as metallic materials which are used at a high temperature. The probe 2 is provided with a collating electrode 6 and a counter electrode 8, and an electrolytic solution 3 is supplied to the probe 2. A potential is loaded between the electrode 6 and the counter electrode 8 from a power source 4. This potential is swept in a prescribed speed from a negative potential in the positive direction and is held in a prescribed positive potential for a prescribed time and is swept reverse to the negative potential in a prescribed speed. At this time, such control is performed that potentials of the electrode 6 and the object 1 to be measured are held in prescribed values. A polarization curve is obtained in accordance with potentials and a current between the object 1 to be measured and the counter electrode 8. A polarization characteristic value is obtained in an arithmetic device on a basis of this polarization curve.
