PURPOSE:To desulfurize high-carbon ferrochromium with high efficiency by blowing a powder desulfurizing agent together with a carrier gas to be blown at a prescribed rate into the melt of the high carbon ferrochromium in a reaction vessel and performing out-of-furnace refining without heating treatment. CONSTITUTION:A melt 1 of high-carbon ferrochromium refined in a refining furnace is charged into a ladle 2 and thereafter carrier gas such as Ar and N2 are blown from a pair of nozzles 5a and 5b of a lance 3 immersed in the melt 1 respectively toward an approximately horizontal direction. The carrier gases are blown at a rate of 200Nm/sec and/or >=0.10Nl/min for each 1kg of the molten metal. >=1 kind of powder desulfurizing agents such as CaC2, CaCO3, CaO, etc. are blown together with the carrier gases into the molten metal 1 to desulfurize the metal 1. The carrier gases are not only used as means for adding the desulfurizers but are used as means for stirring the metal 1 as well. In other words, the gases stir the metal 1 to accelerate the reaction with the desulfurizers. |
