PURPOSE:To obtain optically active cyclopentenone ester and cyclopentenone alcohol, separately, by extracting the cyclopentenone derivative mixture obtained by the asymmetric hydrolysis of a cyclopentenone ester, with a hydrocarbon. CONSTITUTION:The cyclopentenone ester of formula III (R is lower alkyl; R1 is H or methyl; R2 is 1-3C alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl) is subjected to the asymmetric hydrolysis by conventional method to obtain an aqueous solution of an optically active cyclopentenone alcohol of formula I (R1 and R2 are same as defined above) and an optically active cyclopentenone ester of formula II (R, R1 and R2 are same as defined above). The solution is extracted with an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon such as hexane, benzene, etc., and the compound of formula I and the compound of formula II are separated from the hydrocarbon layer and the aqueous layer, respectively. |
