PURPOSE:To lower a rate of destruction of an element part and to increase the strength of the element part by providing a case that supports an ultrasonic wave transmitting/receiving section and projecting the tip of the case from the top of an acoustic lens provided on the element face of the transmitting/receiving section or on the transmitting/receiving section. CONSTITUTION:A projection 301 projecting from the sound wave radiating face 302 of an element part 101 is provided at the tip of a case 103 that supports a ultrasonic wave transmitting/receiving section. A projection 301 projecting outward from the tip of an acoustic lens 102 is provided at the tip of the case 103. In making such a step on whole periphery of the element part 101, the projection 301 provided at the tip of the case 103 is made higher than the element part. The projection 301 is made higher than the acoustic lens 102 while leaving the left and right ends of the element part 101. Thus, the rate of mechanical destruction of the element part 101 is lowered and the strength of the element part 101 is increased.
