A two-stroke internal combustion engine having crankcase purging has a plurality of excess-flow channels 4 which lead from the crankcase into the cylinder area 3 and are directed towards the cylinder side facing away from the outlet side in the sense of reverse purging. Furthermore, two outlet channels 5 are provided which are symmetrical with respect to the plane E running transversely through the cylinder axis with respect to the crankshaft and are combined with one another on the outlet side.
