PURPOSE:To obtain the titled material having high electric conductivity and capable of giving a calcined body of an arbitrary shape by calcining a specified polymer having conjugated systems at a specified temp. or above in an inert atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A film or fibers of a polymer having conjugated systems represented by the formula (where R is an aromatic hydrocarbon group forming a carbon-carbon conjugated system contg. the vinylene group, and n is an integer of >=2), e.g., poly-p-phenylenevinylene are calcined at >400 deg.C to carry out carbonization while holding the shape without causing melting. When the polymer is calcined at a higher temp., graphitization is carried out to obtain a material having high electric conductivity. Calcined bodies thus obtd. show 10<2>-10<4>s/cm electric conductivity in general. The electric conductivity is further increased to 10<3>-10<5>s/cm by doping with an electron acceptor or an electron donor. Unlike a conventional graphitized material the resulting material has high electric conductivity and can give a calcined body of an arbitrary shape, so it can be used in various fields. |
