PURPOSE:To stop a carriage momently with a high accuracy without generating an oscillation in the carriage by exciting a plane electromagnet and stopping and holding a magnetic plate slided on the magnetic field generation face by its electromagnetic force. CONSTITUTION:A carriage 4 is supported freely movably on two parallel guide shafts 7 and 8 and is transported linearly in the radial direction of a disc 1 by the driving action of a movable coil linear motor 5. When the carriage 4 reaches a desired position, an electromagnet 14 is excited, and a magnetic plate 15 which is slided on the magnetic field generation face of the electromagnet 14 is stopped and held by the electromagnetic force accompanied with this excitation. Then, the carriage 4, namely, an optical pickup unit 3 is stopped in a desired track position on the disc 1. By this linear transporting device, the stop position in determined with a high accuracy without a delay with respect to the stop timing of the carriage because the magnetic plate 15 is always brought into contact with the magnetic field generation face of the electromagnet 14. |
