A lance for injecting fluidized material into molten metal consists of a metal tube surrounded by a refractory envelope. The envelope may comprise several layers, lengthwise, of materials which wear at different rates. It is reinforced by an openwork, cylindrical, metal armature, with transverse spacers welded to the tube. A replaceable zirconia tip, similarly protected by an armatured refractory envelope is fixed to the end of the tube by screwing, or a bayonet fitting. The lance is made up in sections, with sleeved joints, to allow replacement of parts attached in passing through layers of slag.
