The invention relates to a shaft for deep foundations or the like which extends from the surface (2) of a supporting soil (1) vertically downwards, if need be down to a safe foundation level (13), and which upon assembly is let down successively from the surface of the supporting soil. The invention shows a means of sinking the shaft uniformly and reliably. To this end, an assembly frame, preferably an assembly ring (5), surrounding the shaft (4) is provided on the surface of the supporting soil, and furthermore tie rods (15) distributed around the periphery are provided on the surface (9) of the shaft. The tie rods are connected to prestressing elements (10) which extend via the assembly frame or the assembly ring (5) down to a safe foundation level (13) of the supporting soil and are anchored there (at 14). The prestressing elements (10) are connected to adjustable prestressing devices (17), e.g. prestressing jacks, with which the shaft, in addition to its dead weight, is pressed into the supporting soil (1). <IMAGE>
