In a process for producing a sound-absorbing lining of textile fibres and a heat-activatable binder, firstly a mat is produced from textile fibres, then a plurality of layers of this mat are superimposed and at least two adjacent layers are held at a distance by means of moulded bodies to form cavities and finally the multi-layer mat is bonded under the effect of elevated temperature and compacted in regions under pressure, the material of the moulded body melting or gasifying at the reaction temperature and leaving a cavity in the finished lining.
