The apparatus, especially intended for the combustion of refuse which is mixed with added incombustible solids, is equipped, instead of with the inflow tray which is usual per se for such systems, with a feed system for flow medium, the outlet openings of which open within the bed material at a predetermined spacing under the surface of the bed material filling with the formation of free interspaces between adjacent outlet openings. Accordingly, incombustible solids, such as stones, which are present in the fluidised bed formed over the openings of the flow medium outlet openings due to flow medium being blown in, can enter between these outlet openings into the non-fluidised bed material and during continuous operation of the apparatus are drawn off together with bed material through a bottom discharge opening and screened out from the bed material before this is returned to the process.
