The mowing machine comprises a plurality of mowing drums which are arranged next to one another transversely to the direction of travel of the machine and are equipped, in the region of their lower ends, on annular collars, with cutting knives, and which are driven rotatably about approximately vertical axes and at least two of which rotate in the same direction in order to bring the mown material together to form a swath. At the same time, arranged respectively between two adjacent mowing drums rotating in the same direction, above the cutting plane and behind the cutting regions of the cutting knives, is a crossover member which at least partially shuts off the gap region between the mowing drums.
