A vascular prosthesis to be used as a graft for replacing a portion of a blood vessel is in the form of a knitted tubular structure (1) the wall (2,3) of which comprises several strata (4,5,6) of which each stratum has characteristics different from those of at least one of the other strata. The prosthesis provides specific characteristics by determining individually the characteristics of each stratum (4,5,6).
