Process for the conservation of material of concrete pipes, in particular concrete waste water pipes, through which flows acidic liquid

Concrete, because of its silicate structure, is basic. When there is a relatively long-term action of acid on the surface of the concrete, the pH thereof falls below a critical value, as a result of which the surface is leached out and a loss of material occurs. With concrete waste water pipes, there is additionally the formation of a habitat for bacteria which themselves produce additional acid. To conserve the material of concrete waste water pipes, it is proposed to treat them with an alkaline substance whenever the pH at the internal surface falls below a critical level.
