In a table top made of wood or wooden materials of rectangular shape, having a plastic edge guard which passes around the periphery and is applied by injection, casting or foaming-on, the bending rigidity of the table top is increased many times over by the fact that a reinforcing profile is embedded in the edge guard and is covered by the plastic material during the production of the edge guard, such reinforcing profiles being arranged on at least two opposite sides of the table top.
