As a new compound, mixed alkylsulfonium salts of N-phosphonomethylglycine having the formula
<Chemistry id="chema01" num="0001"><Image id="ia01" he="22" wi="63" file="IMGA0001.TIF" imgContent="chem" imgFormat="TIFF" inline="no" /></Chemistry>wherein R' is selected from the group consisting of long-chain saturated or unsaturated alkyl groups having from 12 to 20 carbon atoms and R<Sup>2</Sup> and R<Sub>3</Sub> are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of lower alkyl having from 1-3 carbon atoms.
