PURPOSE:To make the attaching work and maintenance of a liquid detector very easy, by compressing a base body to the surface of glass through an elastic plate body which transmits light by a holder, which is attached to the outer peripheral part of a windshield so that the holder can be detached or attached. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting element 70 and a light receiving element 80 are inserted and fixed to a base body 40 of a liquid detector S. The base body 40 is accommodated in an accommodating part 23 of a holder 20, which can be attached and detached to and from the outer peripheral part of a windshield. An elastic plate member 50, which transmits light, is provided between the base body 40 and front glass 10. Based on the output of the light receiving element 80, which is changed in correspondence with the presence or absence of liquid that is attached to the surface of the glass, a wiper is automatically controlled. In attaching the detector S, the base body 40 is compressed to the surface of the glass through the plate member 50, the holder 20 is tightened to an inner plate 11 of a roof by a screw 13, and an adjusting screw 24 is adjusted. Therefore, the attaching work and the maintenance work of the detector S can be performed very easily.
