The grinding wheel (1) of a tooth-flank grinding machine working by the generating method is to be dressed during the grinding. In order to be able to control the dressing device (2) with the requisite precision and speed in the x- and y-direction, the outer profile shape of the dressing wheel (4) is provided several times with the cutting profile shape of the grinding wheel (1) perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the grinding wheel (1). For example, the cutting profile shape can be reproduced twice on the periphery of the dressing wheel.
