PURPOSE:To obtain a simple panel structure and a drive circuit by applying the time series multi-pulse voltage to the negative electrode of a surface panel and applying the continuous pulse voltage with a narrow pulse width and the pulse voltage in response to the display signal in a superposed form to a positive electrode. CONSTITUTION:Many negative electrodes 40 are provided in parallel with each other and at a uniform distance together on a substrate 10 and are connected in multiple phases, many barrier ribs 50 in parallel with each other and at a right angle to the negative electrodes 40 are provided on them at a uniform distance together, and many positive electrodes 70 are provided in parallel with each other on a transparent surface plate 60 at a uniform distance together. The surface plate 60 and the substrate 70 are overlapped so that the negative electrodes 40 and positive electrodes 70 cross at a right angle and the positive electrodes 70 are located between the ribs 50, the circumference is airtightly sealed and filled with gas to form a gas discharge-type display panel. The time series multi-pulse voltage is applied to the negative electrodes 40 and the continuous pulse voltage with a pulse width narrower than that of the multi-phase pulse in response to the multiple pulses and the pulse voltage in response to the display signal are applied to the positive electrodes 70 in a superposed form. |
