MANUFACTURE OF MOLTEN STEEL DEPHOSPHORIZING AGENT

PURPOSE:To obtain inexpensively a molten steel dephosphorizing agent made of sodium silicate of industrial purity by utilizing molten iron after desulfurization in a process for manufacturing steel as a source for feeding a silicic acid component. CONSTITUTION:To molten iron after desulfurization and slag removal are added an Na compound or an Na-contg. compound capable of oxidizing silicon and an oxidizing agent capable of oxidizing silicon. Calcium oxide may be added furthermore. The resulting molten slag contg. sodium silicate is taken out. It is cooled and crushed, and iron is separated to obtain a molten steel dephosphorizing agent made of sodium silicate. The desulfurization of molten iron or the addition of the Na compound to the desulfurized molten iron may be carried out at a suitable stage in a process for manufacturing steel. The resulting sodium silicate granules are refined by removing granular iron contg. phosphorus.
