DEVICE FOR MEASURING BULGING OF CONTINUOUS CASTING BILLET

PURPOSE:To provide a titled device which detects safely and surely the bulging of the sectional contour of a continuous casting billet by forming a water column reaching perpendicularly the surface of the billet from a water releasing nozzle of a sensor and measuring the distance by an ultrasonic rangefinder with said water column as a propagating medium. CONSTITUTION:A sensor head 5 of a device for measuring bulging is attached movably by a driving device 6 via rollers 8, 9 rolling on a guide rail 7 to the lower part of the side guide 3 of a side guide roll 4 which is driven by an air motor 3' and supports the short side of a continuous casting billet S so as to face the short side of the billet S along the short side thereof. The water column reaching the billet S is formed by the water supplied through a flexible hose 12 by a water releasing nozzle 10 provided to the head 5. A distance l is measured with an ultrasonic probe 11 with such water column as a propagating medium. The measured value is transmitted via a coaxial cable 13 to a signal processor (not shown) which operates the shape on the short side of the billet. The distance is measured in the same way with the long side of the billet S and the sectional shape of the billet is operated. The bulging is thus measured.
