In a combustion furnace 10 with multiple orifices, comprising a number of orifices 18 for formation of the flame in non-compartmentalised communication with a common source of gas or oxidant air, the invention provides a process and a device for the selective control of the flow of oxidant air into one or more of the orifices 16. A small quantity of pressurised gas, for example air, is injected, for example by means of a flow control tube 50, in the vicinity of an individual orifice 16, generally along the trajectory of the oxidant air through the orifice, to modify the quantity of oxidant air which penetrates the orifice to be mixed with the fuel. The flow of oxidant air is increased by the injection of air in co-flow with the flow of oxidant air to bring about an additional flow towards the orifice. The flow of oxidant air is reduced by the injection of air in counter-flow to brake the flow through the orifice. <IMAGE>
