Parallelepipedal shaped blocks (10) are provided, to absorb sound waves, with chambers (11, 12, 13, 14) which have slot-shaped openings (27, 28, 29, 30) open to the outside and formed in a front wall (20). By constructing the chambers to have different sizes (volumes) and/or as a result of openings (27...30) of different width or length, a broader spectrum of sound waves is absorbed. Shaped blocks of this type or other types can be joined together to form a wall panel (37, 38) with holding frame (39) at a particular relative position. <IMAGE>
