In practice the problem often arises of separating parts which are difficult to detach from one another - such as an exhaust pipe socket connection - in the event of a repair, or of connecting parts together. Hitherto the method of working was to heat the connection point, or chisel tools were used which, however, is very laborious and in addition carries a large risk of accident. In the case of the novel device two clamping brackets are provided which grip the parts outside the connection point and which are joined together by way of threaded bolts. On each threaded bolt there is a nut, on rotation of which the clamping brackets move away from one another. In this way the parts are forced apart so that the connection can be released.
