Process for producing a gas containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen

A solid carbonaceous fuel is gasified (at relatively moderate temperature) and a first gas mixture, containing carbon monoxide, hydrogen, steam and organic impurities, such as tar, is formed. The first gas mixture is mixed with a second gas which contains carbon monoxide and hydrogen and is at a higher temperature than the first gas mixture, the result being that at least a part of the impurities in the first gas mixture are separated off.
