PURPOSE:To enable to reliably hard-copy on a slip of an arbitrary size, by a method wherein the size of a slip is detected, and a printing pattern is varied on the basis of the detection result. CONSTITUTION:A micro-processor 13 compares the number of characters to be printed which number is fed from a superior device 17 with the allowable number of characters to be printed on the slip 1, and decides whether the printing pattern is to be enlarged or reduced. The amount of enlargement or reduction is calculated as optimum character spacing, line spacing and character size from the result of said comparison, and the allowable number of characters to be printed in the case of printing in the enlarged or reduced printing pattern is also calculated. The information of the character spacing and the line spacing is outputted from the micro-processor 13 to a printer-controlling part 15 and a character number counter 16 as an enlarging signal (a) or a reducing signal (b). In addition, the character spacing and the line spacing are outputted to a compiler generator 14 as a character address signal (c). |
