A multi-channel transmission system for pulse sequences of pulse-phase-modulated pulses which are obtained from pulse-duration-modulated pulses and are transmitted over an infrared transmission path in the form of light flashes, shift registers being provided, in each case at the ends of the transmission path, for sequence control. Using the transmission system, it is intended to transmit pulses without any fixed pulse frame. To this end, the invention provides that in each case a plurality of modulators and/or demodulators are connected in a freely programmable manner to the individual register points of the shift registers.
