PURPOSE:To perform an air-cleaning operation only when it is required and contrive to conserve power and to prolong the useful life of the air conditioner, by providing an air passage bypassing an air cleaner, and a change-over device for passing intake air to either one of the air cleaner and the passage. CONSTITUTION:The air conditioner 10 is provided with the air passage 12 bypassing the air cleaner 11 incorporated in the air conditioner 10, and the passage 12 is provided with a damper 13 constituting the change-over device. Only when interior air is dirty, the air passage 12 is closed by the damper 13, whereby air is passed through the air cleaner 11 to be cleaned, and is then blown out through a blow-off grille 17. On the other hand, when it is unnecessary to operate the air cleaner 11, the passage 12 is opened by the damper 13, and air is passed through the passage 12 which has small resistance to the passage of air. Accordingly, a fan motor assembly 15 can be rotated at a low speed corresponding to the small passage resistance, and motive power can be conserved. |
