PURPOSE:To perform profile welding with high accuracy and excellent reliability in AC arc welding using a consumable electrode by controlling the arc point so as to profile automatically the weld line by utilizing the welding conditions for the stage of welding. CONSTITUTION:There is a specified function relation among welding current, the feed speed of a consumable electrode, arc voltage, wire extension of the electrode and arc length in consumable electrode type AC arc welding. The welding current, the feed speed of a consumable electrode 2 and the voltage between a welding chip 3 and base metals 7 to be welded are detected respectively by a current detector 21, a detector 23 for the rotating amt. by a roller 9 and a voltage value detector 22 in the stage of welding the metals 7 with an AC arc while oscillating the electrode 2 in the groove of said materials. These values are inputted to a digital calculator 35, by which the length of the arc 4 and the distance between the chip 3 and a weld metal 6 are determined and the relative position of the chip 3 with respect to the weld line is controlled to the set position from the change in the above-mentioned distance owing to the oscillation of the chip, by which the arc point is profiled to the normal weld line and the welding is thus accomplished. |
