The invention relates to a compound glass comprising at least two layers of glass (31, 33) bonded together by one or more interlayers made of plastic (32), a pane (35) made of a shock-resistant material being bonded to this laminated structure. According to the invention, the glass comprises, on the side of the inner layer of glass (33) opposite to the face covered by the said shock-resistant pane, a layer made of plastic, the composition and the thickness of which are such that, because of its contraction at low temperature, it induces in the layer of glass (33) shear stresses which compensate those induced in the layer of glass (33) by the shock-resistant pane which is optionally provided with an adhesive and protective layer. Such safety glass is especially applicable as bullet-proof glass for self-propelled vehicles.
