摘要 PURPOSE:To suppress development of ground color and enhance color forming sensitivity, by applying a styrene/methacrylic acid random copolymer to a base by an undercoating method or a size press method, in a leuco thermal recording material. CONSTITUTION:A styrene/methacrylic acid random copolymer having a molar ratio of monomers of 1:1-0.1 is applied to the base together with a binder, the amount of which is 0.1-1pts.wt. per 1pts.wt. of the copolymer, followed by drying to provide an undercoat layer on the base. Alternatively, the base is subjected to a surface sizing treatment by immersing it into a sizing liquid comprising the copolymer and a binder such as a water-soluble high polymer. In the case of the undercoating method, the copolymer is used in an amount of 1- 10g per 1m<2> of the base, and in the case of the size press method, it is used in an amount of 0.1-3g per 1m<2> of the base. A thermal color forming layer comprising an ordinary leuco dye, a color developer, a binder and, if required, auxiliary additive components is provided on the base thus treated.
