PURPOSE:To manufacture an Nb3Sn composite superconductor with high workability and superior characteristics in a strong magnetic field by work-forming a composite body of an Nb-Hf alloy and a Cu-Sn alloy, sticking Ga or Al to the surface of the formed body, and carrying out diffusion heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:An Nb alloy contg. 0.1-30 atomic% Hf is coated with a Cu alloy contg. 0.1-10 atomic% Sn, and the resulting composite body is worked into a wire, a tape or the like by wire drawing, rolling or other method. A film of Ga or Al is then stuck to the surface of the worked body by hot dipping or other method so that 0.1-50 atomic% Ga or Al is contained in the matrix after diffusion. The Ga- or Al-stuck worked body is subjected to preliminary heat treatment at 30-700 deg.C and diffusion heat treatment at 600-900 deg.C. Thus, compound Nb3Sn is formed on the boundary of the composite body, and the desired Nb3Sn composite superconductor is obtd. |
