PURPOSE:To obtain a fluorescent lamp having reduced size and power consumption while provides sufficient brightness by providing a hot cathode where the weight at the section to be secured with the electron emitter in a filament wire constituting an electrode is specified then filling micro amount of mercury and specific gas in the encapsulation tube. CONSTITUTION:Filament wires 2A, 2B are secured through lead wires 3A, 3B in the spaces at the opposite ends of an encapsulation tube 1. The filament wires 2A, 2B are made of high melting point metal such as tungsten or molybdenum where the weight at the portions 21A and 21B to be secured with an electron emitter is 0.3-3.0mg and the electron emitter is secured through coating, for example. Micro amount of mercury is encapsulated in the encapsulation tube 1 while gas selected from argon, krypton or neon of 6-50Torr (Under 25 deg.C) is encapsulated.
